Relationship Between Victims and Offenders

The vast majority of rapes are committed by someone known to the victim.

Drug-facilitated, Incapacitated, and Forcible Rape: A National Studyfound the following relationships between victims and perpetrators of forcible rape:

  • Strangers 11%
  • Husbands and ex-husbands 10%
  • Fathers and step-fathers 11%
  • Boyfriends 14%
  • Other relatives 18%
  • Other non-relatives 22%
  • Friends 12%
  • Classmates 2%
